Hosier Lane - Melbourne's Instagram hub

Despite the short amount of time I spent in Melbourne, Hosier Lane definitely has to be one of my highlights!

Hosier Lane is the most popular, but one of many streets in Melbourne that is covered head to toe with urban art. From bins to shop doors, every inch of the street is filled with colourful paintings ranging in topics such as politics, current affairs, Australian culture and even the latest memes.

Usually graffiti holds negative perceptions, but Hosier Lane brings thousands of tourists to view the art each day. This is a classic example of a location that has been gentrified in order to draw in more visitors. After all with today's Instagram obsessed culture, where better to snap a few selfies than a wall full of colour? You literally can't walk down the street without seeing someone pose for the camera...

It's clear that away from Melbourne's quality coffee, street art is the new go to attraction. Sadly with the nature of street art, images painted on to the walls don't stick around forever. I didn't realise how quick it can change until my daily walks revealed a different masterpiece each time! Could this be the reason Hosier Lane has become so popular?

If you ever find yourself in Melbourne and want the best Instagram photos, be sure to check out these streets for more acclaimed urban art:
  • AC/DC Lane
  • Higson Lane
  • Duckboard Palace
  • Tattersalls Lane
  • Croft Alley
Stay home, and stay safe.
